The
Javelina or Collared Peccary is the only wild pig like animal in the
United States. They are also known as the Musk Hog in some areas. They
have poor eye sight but very good hearing. They can run very fast. The
Javelina is not to be confused with the pig as they are of a different
species. They have 3 toes on the hind feet unlike pigs which have 4.
You will often smell one before ever seeing it. They usually travel
in small bands. Prickly Pear cactus is a common food for the Javelina
due to its water content.
